Minnesota Permit Practice Test 2026 – Complete Exam Prep Guide

When a driver sees a flashing yellow arrow, it indicates that they should proceed with caution. This traffic signal means that the driver is permitted to turn in the direction of the arrow but must yield to oncoming traffic and any pedestrians in the crosswalk. It is a signal to be aware of surrounding conditions and to ensure that it is safe to make the turn before proceeding.

The flashing yellow arrow is designed to increase awareness and safety at intersections by alerting drivers to possible hazards. This distinguishes it from a solid yellow arrow, which would require vehicles to prepare to stop. Recognizing the flashing yellow arrow's meaning helps prevent accidents and encourages defensive driving behavior, ensuring that all road users remain safe.

In this context, stopping immediately, speeding up, or making a U-turn would not align with the intent of the flashing yellow arrow, as these actions could lead to confusion or unsafe driving conditions.
